Christian devotions in the Daily-Message

Why specifically me?

“The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry?”

Isaiah 40:6a

Today's Scripture is taken from the book of Isaiah. The prophet of God is hereby instructed to preach. Isaiah's reaction thereto is totally human, he asks what he should preach.

Are we not often like this as well? When Jesus says to us: “Go and preach the Gospel to every creature”, we also ask God, what we should say. We are just simple people, how will we preach? How will we tell other people about God? Can't others do it, who have studied, who have the gift of preaching. I want to live as a Christian, but missions, that is not really my thing, I can't speak well at all...

God often hears such excuses. And it is not only we who speak like this, a lot of the Old Testament prophets and even Moses reacted in like manner to God's instruction to speak. But, where would we be today if everyone thought and spoke like this?

There is a saying: “God does not call the qualified, He qualifies those He calls!” We read in Matthew 10:19: “take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.'' We don't have to speak in our own power or knowledge, God doesn't ask anything of us that we are not able to do. When we depend on God, when we allow Him to work in and through us, then His Spirit will speak through us.

We are the instruments through which God glorifies Himself, we are not God Himself, that we speak from ourselves. Whoever only speaks his own words, wants to glorify himself, wants to make himself to something that he is not. But, whoever has open ears, whoever gives the Holy Spirit of God room to work through him, only he can bring glory to God.

Therefore God instructs us to preach, we shall all become His witnesses. He doesn't have to explain everything to us in detail, His word only says: Preach!

Do you hear this call of God? Are you willing to open your ears? Do you hear His call? Are you willing to adhere to His Word? Do you obey His call? Are you willing to listen to that which He wants from you?

We are the messengers, sent by God into the world. We must take His Word to the ends of the earth, so that no-one can say they haven't heard it. Are you ready to do this?

I wish you a blessed day, in which you allow yourself to be used totally by God.
