Christian devotions in the Daily-Message

God thinks about us

“And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters asswaged.”

Genesis 8:1

When one speaks of a “personal relationship”, more than just an impersonal relationship with colleagues or a shared interest between acquaintances are meant. Most of it is planned, self-explanatory, predictable, controlled, manageable and uninspired. It is completely different, when we as Christians think about God, with Whom we have (and need) a decisive “personal” relationship. In such a relationship many things are unplanned and uncontrolled, sometimes even confusing and questionable. When we think about God, we quickly reach our own limits and realize that which is written in Isaiah 55:8-9: “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” When we are close to someone and want to be close to them, it is not displayed as an apathetic attitude, but with the desire for the encounter to come alive – we search for communication, joy and action. When God thinks about us, it is a response to that which HE Himself has placed within us. From within ourselves, we are unable to complete our faith. It has to come from and be prepared by God, otherwise we are merely communicating with ourselves. And who wants to do that? We have the Bible, the faith, our brother and sisters in Christ, the Holy Spirit, and can be connected to God in a wonderful, eternal, unperturbed manner.

We read in John 4:23-24: “But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.'' When God thinks about us, then HE does so in Spirit and in truth! God remembered Noah and his family to give them a new home after the flood, HE remembered Hanna who wanted a son (1 Samuel 1:19) and the man who hung beside Jesus on the cross and asked Him, to remember him when He got to His Kingdom – the answer: “Today shalt thou be with Me in paradise.” (Luke 23:42-43). When God thinks about us, something happens! And God also thinks about you – they are thoughts of joy. In Jeremiah 29:11, we read: “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” HE knows your situation, your toil and your hardship, the LORD recognizes your soul and your thoughts from afar (Psalm 139:2: “Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.”) When God thinks about us, we are thought of – today, tomorrow and eternally.
