May has just begun. Although the appropriate weather for this time of year hasn't made its complete appearance yet, one notices it, at the latest, in the morning when the alarm goes off and it is already light outside – despite the switch to summertime...
The gloomy days are over, when I drove to work in the dark and only got home again at sunset. Spring awakens and with it the life in nature. It is blooming everywhere and the sun contributes thereto that our moods are also much more cheerful and friendly.
In today's scripture, Jesus also uses the image of light and darkness. Just as the sun awakens nature to life again, Jesus is the Light of our souls.
Yesterday I wrote about paths and crossings where we need to make decisions. But, how shall we do this if we are standing in darkness and unable to see where a path is leading? When darkness inhibits our souls, our eyes grow dim and we cannot see what lies ahead.
But, Jesus can be our Light, if we allow Him to dwell within us. He reveals the correct path which we should follow, because it is good for us and leads us to the right destination. However, when we lack orientation, we are inevitably led astray.
We read in Psalm 119:105: “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” It is not a halogen headlight, it is a Light which always shows me my next step. I still don't see what is happening in the future, that is entirely in God's hands, but I always know where my next step must be so that I don't take the wrong path.
Do you have this Light or are you still stumbling helplessly through life?
I wish you a sunny and blessed day in the Light of the Lord.
