The old man and the sea

“And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.”

Genesis 1:20-23

Although I am not too old yet, I will be spending my holiday at the sea this time. The mountains with their steep paths don't appeal to me. Climbing over a few dunes, in order to reach the sea from the land, is sufficient for me. But, regardless of where one goes, the holiday is always something pleasant.

Even though I am able to view the cities in my vicinity, the mountains and the sea impacts me much more intensely as, in contrast to my home city, I am able to perceive the infinite expanse of divine creation.

When our God created the earth, He did not only create a small paradise for people, no, He created an immense expanse in the universe which no man will ever reach. Even the vastness of our earth is so extensive that it is hard to comprehend without technical assistance. When one then still considers how many different species of living creatures live in the seas, the mountains and the jungles, all of which are precisely adapted to their habitat, how can one still believe in an accidental materialization from a mysterious big bang or that all these creatures emerged from nothing at all or all by themselves from a rudimentary single cell?

I once read a comparison which said that the accidental creation of the earth is as unlikely as a printing shop exploding and the letters falling in such a manner that a 25 volume encyclopedia emerged.

I believe in miracles, but only when there is someone who possesses the power to perform these miracles. I cannot believe in the miracle of chance or evolution. Where do they come from?

And so, I am looking forward to my holiday by the sea, when I will be able to observe how awesome God created it all!

I wish you a blessed day, upon which you can also admire a part of this creation.
