What is darkness?

One cannot describe it in itself, it is simply the absence of light. Light is waves or particles in the physical sense, it is that which a light source like a lamp or the sun emits. If we didn't have this light we would have had to deal with complete darkness.

God is such a light source for our lives. When we move towards God, we move towards the Light which is good and vital for our lives. In the Light we see what lies ahead of us, the Light warms us and gives us life, true life. When we go towards the Light, we are going in the right direction, towards God.

But, what if we turn our backs on God? When we seek a life without Him? Then we have the Light at our back and before us lies – the shadows, the darkness. When we move away from God, we live in the dark. We go into the cold, there where the light of love does not shine.

Darkness is the opposite of light, the absolute nothingness. A life without God is a life of nothingness, a senseless life, a life without a goal, a life without perception of that which lies ahead of us.

Is it not unquestionable, which life one should lead? Should not the question of light or darkness answer itself? But, why do so many people live a life without God?
