When it gets really hot again

“The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: He shall preserve thy soul.”

Psalm 121:5-7

Yesterday was a pretty hot day. The thermometer climbed to well above 30°. As pleasant as it is when one is at the beach or a swimming pool, as unpleasant it is when one is sitting working in a small office. At 9 o'clock in the morning the temperature here in the office already climbed to over 26°.

Fortunately there is a built-in air-conditioning unit here, which I quickly switched on. It managed to get the air in the office back to a bearable temperature so that one was again able to think and work.

Thus, there are many things in our lives which make life difficult, which depress and burden us. How nice it would be if there was an air-conditioner for our problems, which made them more bearable...a button which one merely had to press to again have a carefree life?

Unfortunately, such an apparatus does not exist. We can't simply switch off our problems and worries.

And yet there is a solution for us, so that we don't have to remain stuck in the dark side of life. We have a mighty God who sent His Son Jesus to earth. And then, on the cross of Calvary, He took all our sins and suffering upon Himself.
We are not alone in our problems, we have someone in Him who walks with us and carries with us. And when the worries torment us, He wants to take them away, as He has already borne them for us.

With God we may not be at a swimming pool all the time, however He makes our burdens lighter so that we are able to bear them.

The button therefore is simply “faith”. We must just invite Jesus into our lives and live our lives in unity with Him. Entrust Him with that which burdens you – if you believe in Him – He will move in your life. And in this manner you will be able to overcome even the hottest days.

I wish you a blessed day, together with our Lord Jesus at your side.
