Tuesday evenings is always “Open Doors” at our church, a youth meeting at which there is always some spiritual as well as bodily nourishment. Yesterday, it was Kathrin's time in the kitchen and she decided to make toasted sandwiches.
One can eat a slice of toast-bread without anything on it. It is however really dry and doesn't taste like much, but when one eats enough of it, one does become full – and it is also quite cheap. A toasted sandwich is however very different when one fills it with something nice like ham or tuna and cheese, tomatoes topped with a mayonnaise mixed with gherkins and herbs...it is much more filling and tastes much better than a dry slice of toast.
I was reminded of today's scripture: “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved”. These are the basics for a Christian, so to speak the slice of toast-bread which is able to satiate one.
Then I was reminded of a further scripture: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23)
That is the toasted sandwich for us Christians, the filling which makes the whole thing much more tasty, the icing on the cake of our faith. With all these things we are able to do a lot more with our basic faith, in a manner which really pleases our Lord. And for us, our faith becomes a fulfilling life in which we are able to find our purpose!
Are you still munching on a dry slice of toast, or do you prefer a good-tasting spread?
I wish you a blessed day fulfilled with God's love.
