What is in a meat sausage?

I was standing at my refrigerator, because I felt a slight hunger pang. I looked inside to see whether anything stimulated my appetite. There I noticed half a spreadable meat sausage and cut a slice from it.

Normally I am not a huge fan of meat sausage, because, as everyone is aware, no-one really knows what it consists of. The rumours are more than likely consistent with the ingredients...

Whilst eating the sausage, I pondered on what I could write today – and the above Scripture came to mind. With Christians, it should not be the case as with the meat sausage where no-one really knows the contents. We should shine before men with our good works. Everyone should be able to see that we are not only 'Christians' on the outside, but are also Christians within!

Unfortunately there are far too many people who allege to be Christians however, even though one has known them for many years, one has never noticed anything of their Christian character. Such shadow-Christians are not what Jesus wants. We should be luminous images of our Saviour with our works, and with everything we do. God created us according to His image – and others should be able to see it in us.

When Jesus commands us “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost” (Matthew 28:19), this does not, in the first instance, mean that we should all be zealous missionaries who spread God's Word anywhere and everywhere – our lives alone and what others see in us should reveal that God is Lord of our lives.

I once read a quote by an unknown person: “Be careful how you live! You are perhaps the only Bible that some people read.”
