Lift the hands - weekend

“And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had made; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made.”

Genesis 2:2

At my previous work-place I used to start waiting for the weekend at noon on a Monday already. The days went by dreadfully slowly and I was always hoping that they would somehow just pass. I lived from weekend to weekend – and the time inbetween lived me...

Fortunately there is also still holidays in which one has a few days more than a weekend away from work. However, these times are still much further apart than Monday to Friday.

Meanwhile most people have a two day weekend. It is not so long ago, I still remember it well, when my dad worked on Saturdays and I had school on Saturdays.

The idea to have one day a week free does not stem from a socialist politician or union, it was God's idea. He created the earth in six days and rested on the seventh day. And precisely this rhythm was introduced to humans by God. It was actually the Sabbath, the Saturday, however the early Church changed this day to the day in which Jesus was resurrected, the Sunday. In the meantime, it is good for everyone, as today we have both days free.

But, God also utilized the days before the weekend to their fullest. He did not say: when is it finally Saturday? He created something with abundant love and joy, our world and also us. In this manner we should also utilize the week to be creative, creative living. Everything that needs to be done, which we must or want to do, must be done during these days. The weekend is not intended for that purpose, it is intended for resting and re-creation.

So, even though most have forgotten to live in this manner, the week is the actual time in which to live, to experience, to create, to talk and so on. And when we have done that throughout the week, then we are allowed to rest during the weekend, as God did after the creation.

How many days during the week do you live?

When is your creative time?

I wish you a blessed Friday, on which to really utilize the time well before the weekend.
