Spaghetti must be cooked

“Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.”

1 Timothy 2:4

I cooked a portion of spaghetti earlier. Raw from the packet it hardly fits into my biggest pot, let alone on a plate. Only once it is cooked, it becomes soft and adapts to the shape of the plate so that one is able to serve and eat it at the table.

This is similar to some Bible passages. When read in the Bible, they are often bulky and often they don’t really fit into the world-view and in our faith. At times they seem too difficult to conceive in our hearts.

But, Jesus sent us the Holy Spirit to assist us. He is within us and wants to guide us to the truth and teach us to understand God better. So, if a word is too intricate for me, I should not try to receive it into my heart with my human intelligence. It sometimes doesn’t fit and can even cause harm to the heart. The Holy Spirits sits in between the heart and the mind and imparts that to us which we cannot comprehend with our own human understanding.

When we ask Him to reveal a word to us, when we allow Him to work in us, then we are able to comprehend a passage with our hearts.

The Bible is the inspired Word of God and everything in it is true. However, our minds cannot comprehend some things. Once we understand that, we will not merely ignore the difficult passages, but will sought out the clarification, until our heart is full.

Which Bible passages are you battling with? Where are you stuck?
Have you asked the Holy Spirit to give you understanding?

I wish you a blessed day with ample understanding of that which you read in your Bible!
