Fear of God?

“O fear the LORD, ye His saints...”

Psalm 34:9a

I rejoice as Psalm 34 bears fruit! My thoughts ponder on the fear of the Lord. What do you think about the fear of the Lord? It has nothing to do with being afraid, but of having reverence towards God. Our questions are more to that effect. How do I stand before the Lord? Do I have the necessary respect towards my God? Does my life reflect God's glory? If not, what consequences does this have for me and what does the Bible teach on this topic? I searched the word 'fear' on a Bible server and it came back with 117 hits. From these, I chose various Scriptures and arranged them so that each Scripture completes the other. I recommend that you carefully study these Scriptures in order to understand the contents as a whole. God's Word is so wonderfully multifaceted and yet fits together perfectly in its entirety.

Psalm 76:7 “Thou, even Thou, art to be feared: and who may stand in Thy sight when once Thou art angry?”

Psalm 89:7 “God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about Him.”

Psalm 2:11 “Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.”

Psalm 55:5 “Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me, and horror hath overwhelmed me.”

Psalm 34:4 “I sought the LORD, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.”

Psalm 34:11 “Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD.”

Proverbs 2:5 “Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.”

Proverbs 15:33 “The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.”

Proverbs 22:4 “By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.”

Proverbs 9:10 “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.”

Psalm 19:9 “The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.”

Psalm 111:10 “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do His commandments: His praise endureth for ever.”

Proverbs 1:7 “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”

Proverbs 8:13 “The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.”

Proverbs 16:6 “By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.”

Proverbs 14:27 “The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.”

Proverbs 10:27 “The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.”

Proverbs 19:23 “The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.”

Proverbs 15:16 “Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.”

2 Corinthians 7:1 “Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”

Yes, fear is not being scared but having reverence which leads to blessings. Amen.

Be blessed
