The Door

“I am the door: by Me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.”

John 10:9

There are no closed doors with God. We have just celebrated Pentecost, however those who have missed it, can read the story in Acts 2. The disciples gathered in the upper room of a house. Suddenly, with a great noise, the Holy Spirit entered just as before (John 20:19) when Jesus entered into a locked house where the disciples were gathered. When God wants to come to someone, He does so. Nothing or no-one can prevent Him, because He is everywhere and omnipresent.

And just as all doors are open to God, Jesus describes Himself as an open door in today's scripture. Through Him – and only through Him – we can obtain eternal life. Through the crucifixion and through the resurrection, Jesus opened the door to the Father for us. Now He sits at the right hand of God, to absolve us and open the way to eternal glory for us.

But, in our lives, we stand before many different doors. Some are closed, but many invite us, with large, enticing advertisements, to enter. But, beware, the adversary has the largest and most beautiful posters. He has opened his doors wide, so that we will go in.

“Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” (Matthew 7:14) God's door does not require advertising. However, we must be careful, so as not to be blinded by the other doors.

But, how is it possible to find the correct door? How must we distinguish between that which leads to Satan's damnation and that which leads to God's glory? The answer is actually quite simple: for us humans it is impossible. Regardless of how we may try to rely upon our minds, it will not lead us onto the right path. We are completely incapable of finding the way and the door.

However, we are not helpless or alone! And that brings us back to Pentecost. Jesus sent us the Holy Spirit. He is our Helper and our Adviser. When we open our inner door for Him, when we allow Him into our hearts and give Him residence there, He will lead us into all truth. He alone can show us the door which leads to the Father. He shows us how to find Jesus who is the door.

Have you found the door to life? Have you received the Holy Spirit who will show you the way?

I wish you a blessed and spirit-filled day
