Christian devotions in the Daily-Message

GOD knows you!

“O Lord, Thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, Thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.”

Psalm 139:1-3

Warren W. Wiersbe divided the Psalm in the following manner: Verse 1-6 = GOD knows us precisely – we cannot deceive HIM! Verse 7-12 = GOD is always with us – we cannot flee from HIM! Verse 13-18 = GOD has created us wonderfully – we cannot ignore HIM! Verse 19-24 = GOD is a righteous Judge – we cannot argue with HIM! Didn't David have a moving life? Here we have the beginning of a prayer by a man who was a shepherd, a king and a prophet. His beginning is similar to his ending. LORD YOU...! Is the great, powerful, loving and living GOD also your LORD and GOD?

No other, no man, no doctor, no scanner or x-ray machine – knows me as well as my LORD. Everyone only sees that which is visible, GOD sees our hearts! (1 Samuel 16:7). We can deceive people, but not our LORD. GOD knows us through and through. Is that not also frightening? HE knows all my most secretive thoughts and wishes. All sins, all thoughts, that I would never tell another person. Are we always aware of this? Even before a thought is “completed” my LORD already knows it.

Sitting – rising – strolling or walking - the daily routine. The LORD is familiar with my ways. Can we not be cheerful and happy, knowing this? Our LORD already knows in advance which way we will go and also if we will arrive there. (Job 31:4). We are never alone. HE is familiar with and knows what prompts us to do this or that or not to do it. HE tests us. Do we withstand these tests? Or do we sometimes want to go our own way!? Hebrews 4:12 and 13 says crystal clear, that GOD'S WORD is also a Judge of the thoughts and attitudes of our hearts. The WORD OF GOD is the guideline and measuring line and we must align our lives to this WORD.

Moreover – as we read in the additional verses in Hebrews, our LORD, Who was also tempted as we are – yet without sin – wants to come to our assistance in mercy and grace. Even David experienced this thousands of years ago. His very moving life and all his moving experiences written in the Psalms show us what an awesome LORD we have. HE knows everything about us. HE is with us on our path. HE protects and preserves us and HE looks after us. Let us go into the new day with these thoughts and don't forget: our LORD is with us. Let us give HIM the glory and show and tell other people what a great GOD and Father we have.
